Phonics That Sticks: Phonics Pattern Elkonin Boxes - Basic & Advanced Mats

Help students hear it, choose it, touch it, map it, write it, and use it in a sentence! 

These Phonics Pattern Elkonin Box mats take sound mapping one step further by giving students the spelling patterns they need to choose from directly on the mat.

Students begin by saying the word and choosing/circling the correct spelling pattern for the sound they hear. Then, they touch a dot for each sound, map the sounds into the Elkonin boxes, and write the correct letters or spelling patterns in each box. Remember—when multiple letters work together to make one sound, they share one box! After mapping and blending the word, students use the handwriting lines at the bottom to write the word or challenge themselves to use it in a complete sentence.

The Basic sound mats are a great tool to use for basic phonics skills, such as CVC, CVCe and blends!

The advanced mats are organized by specific phonics skills and spelling patterns, giving students extra support as they learn that one sound can often be represented in multiple ways.
